Information For HLTA/TA/LSA

Teaching Assistants (also known as a Learning Support Assistant) play a vital role in schools, working alongside teachers and helping pupils to get the most out of their learning.
They support individuals or groups of pupils, and they assist the teacher in the classroom. TAs need to have good reading, writing and numeracy skills, as well as good organisational and communication skills.
In order to join our team of TAs, candidates must:

  • Have a good basic education to GCSE level in literacy and numeracy, or the equivalent
  • Hold NVQ 3 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent qualification in a relevant field
  • Have experience of working with children of relevant age
  • Be able to use ICT effectively to support learning
  • Be able to use other equipment technology, e.g. video, photocopier
  • Have a general understanding of national/foundation stage curriculum and other relevant learning programmes/strategies
  • skills of empathy, listening, communication and be able to respond with appropriate language to build rapport with children and carers from a variety of ages, abilities and cultural backgrounds.
  • Work constructively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities and your own position within these
  • Ability to comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality, data protection and equal opportunities
